During the winter, many people think about how they keep warm and how they could save money on high electricity bills. This is undoubtedly a big problem for many households and that is why over the years they switch from one alternative to another. Each heating system has its own advantages and disadvantages, but all are united around the idea of maintaining maximum comfort and convenience. Of course, the most common ways of heating are through central steam heating, heaters, fireplaces and electrical appliances. In recent years, underfloor heating has become popular in the Bulgarian market and has become one of the most preferred methods.
What is underfloor heating?
Experts claim that this is one of the healthiest ways of heating. This is due to the fact that underfloor heating manages to achieve and maintain an even temperature throughout the home. It can be installed in any room, no matter if it is a bathroom or a bedroom. The possibilities are limitless. With it, your entire floor becomes one big heating body. Thus, you not only save space at the expense of the other appliances, but also guarantee you a comfortable temperature throughout the day and a reduction in electricity costs.
One of the advantages of underfloor heating is that about 50% of the heat it emits is radiant energy. It is directly absorbed by people and furniture, and does not only warm the air. This saves up to 20% of heat energy and is therefore more efficient than electric heaters and radiators. It can be the main source of heating for your home, but if you wish, you can combine it with other appliances to achieve maximum comfort.
Its advantages are:
- Possibility of installation on any type of floor structure;
- Uniform temperature distribution;
- Silent operation;
- Reducing moisture and preventing mold growth.
There are two main types – electric and water-based.
Electric underfloor heating
It works on the principle of heating cables or foil, which are installed in the floor. The heat is released under the action of the electric current passing through it. It can be installed directly on a concrete base, but experts recommend that an insulating surface be placed under the heaters first. After that, floor screed and flooring are applied. Insulation is of great importance when the floor surface is wooden – for example parquet. Another mandatory element is the installation of a wired floor sensor, which regulates and fixes the temperature.
Hydronic floor heating
It has pipes that act as a heating element. Hot water with a temperature of 45-65ºC circulates through them. The hot water that passes through them can be drawn directly from a central heating system, boiler or heat pump. It is installed in a similar way as with the electric one, but the installation technique is more difficult and expensive.
We recommend that, before choosing underfloor heating, you take into account the size of the room, what the external walls and windows are like, as well as how often you enter and leave the room where it will be installed.
